I live in the Great Mud-West and have ran my '00 400EX so much that it is time for new skins. I love the stock (Ohtsu's) tires but I need more clearance for the type of riding I do in Illinos. I have read a lot of the forums here and I would like the input of the experienced and knowledgable to help me out. What tire brand and model won the most recent shootout for this type of machine? I am looking for something that won't muck-up in the mud, still allows you to slide nice in the corners, is about 22" tall x 11"-12" wide, about 2-4 ply, and doesn't look like it belongs on a tractor. I have been considering the Holeshot 22" rear and 23" front combo. Has anyone on this forum tried this set-up on the 400EX? Also, did you have to make the gear reduction from 15-38 to 14-39? And if you did, how does this affect low-end torque, accelleration, and top-end speed? Thanx!

Feara I dont think that you can go wrong with the holeshots. My friend just put some on his quad and I plan on doing the 22 rear 23 front real soon on my 400ex, I ride desert and also need the clearance, as far as the sprocket changes I have heard also one lower in front and one bigger in back should return it to around stock.

I have the 22" XCT Holeshots on the back of my 400EX for trailriding because were I ride is alot of red mud(clay) and all the 4x4 quads put huge ruts in the mudholes. I dont really do much mud riding, but in order to go fast on the trails you have to ride through some of the spots and I was tired of getting hung up all the time. I geared my front sprocket down to a 13 which seemed to balance it all out well. I also have a Sparks exhaust, jet kit, WB rev kit, and Sparks air filter. So the bigger tires dont hold the machine back to much it is noticeable but not terrible.

I think you will be very happy with the 22" Holeshots.

Thanks Adam, Did you try the 23" on the front? And it seems to be the popular concensus of this forum to run a 39 rear sprocket. Think that would give you back a little more low end grunt? Final question, how do you REALLY like your WB Rev Box (noticable difference)?
