Default Help!! Looking to buy a DS...need a little more info

It would sure be nice if these dealers would let you ride these bikes before purchasing one. Oh well...can anyone tell me the approximate horsepower of the DS650 at the rear wheels? What kind of h.p. does the ds have with a pipe, jetting and upgraded rev limiter?

Thanks!!
soon to be ds owner(pretty sure)

They won't let you test drive??? That's asinine! They should let you because once you ride a DS, you'll want to buy it! Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the stock DS is about 48 hp. Just got mine a couple weeks ago and love it!

I am not sure on the numbers, but I can tell you that they dont put down 48 at the rear wheels. That might be crank hp though. My guestimate it that rwhp would be in the 38-42 hp range. Piped, jetted, filter and cdi, should put you in the upper 40's, around 48 or so rwhp.

They have plenty of power. Great machine, pretty much bullet proof.

HP dont matter. Its FAST!! You would like the power.. Its much faster then the Z400 and very very close to a stock raptor.. not faster not slower... If you do a few bolt on mods you will like it..

I disagree with mudstud, my baja has consitently proved that it is faster then my raptor. But I am sure the raptor guys will jump in here and say no way.

I think the DS is faster then the raptor, but they are both pretty fast.

Of course, not as fast as a banshee. lol...

I have two DS650s, one is a 2001 and the other a 2003 Baja that is completely stock. I just got the Baja, and it has been two years since I rode a 'stock' DS650 and between the two machines I only have a pipe, jet kit & K&N filter in the box. The difference in power between the two (feels!) extreme. Just those three items and you gain OH so much! The machine even stock certainly isn't gutless, however with just a little bit of investment it gets a whole new outlook. I'm planning to go with a full compliment of bolt on performance parts for my Baja and possibly even a set of King shocks down the road for it!

I don't personally plan to tear into the engine to get extra power, with a good set of bolt on parts it'll have plenty for some time to come. (I don't spend much time at all hillshooting.)

Oh yeah, the reason I bought the Baja? My fiance decided she wanted the 2001 DS650 so I had to go get a new ATV & I liked the DS650s so well, I bought another!
