Default Barely Used or Brand New?- what do you buy?

ok, so we all know you lose a grand right off the bat when you buy a brand new bike. So when you see someone selling a good looking six month old bike which retails for say, $3500 new, and he's selling it for like $2800 claiming it's got 10 hours on it, will you steer towards the brand new one? I'd like to see what everyone decides.

Unless you know the seller, this boils down to not very much money for the risk you may be taking. That just barely out of warrantee bike could be a lemon, been ridden very hard or even stolen. On top of that, the price difference is even less as most dealers will deal at least a couple of hundred on almost any new bike.

Where I live, there are rarely any *deals* on almost new quads as for some reason there value is way overated. There's an Ozark in the classifieds right now - Only ridden three times, $3,500. MSR is $3,495 brand new with a warantee!

Unless you can't come up with the extra few hundred bucks on a three to four thousand dollar quad, I'd be highly tempted to just buy new.

Now, a three to five year old quad that has not been used much yet is a couple of thousand $$$ cheaper is a different story.

I agree with the price difference thing, 100%. I consider myself a mechanical person and I feel confident i can spot any problems with an atv someone's trying to sell me. I'm just afraid to buy a brand new atv with the understanding that a year from now if i wanted to sell it I'd lose at least a grand. But what you said sounds about right- unless it's a real good deal and the bike is in great shape, don't buy used. Thanks for the advice.
Is that what everyone else pretty much thinks too?

I prefer new. At my age it is the only virgin I will ever get. Actually I worry about someone elses problems. But then again it could be buyer remorse. Didn't ride like thought would, want a bigger machine, or different style. Like my 500 HO. I like it but would kinda like to go bigger, no problems but the lack of recoil kept me away from the 6 or 7.

Well! I must be the lucky one. I bought my 2001 Warrior used, with only 20 hours on it for $3400 last summer. The bike has not had one problem. NONE!

I bought a 1993 300EX real cheap at $900. Had to put $600 in it to make it trail ready.(Must of the $600 was new tires from the dealer. OUCH!) The battery is dead now though. That is just maintance though.
