Default painted cases and grip tape question??????????

I just painted my cases and was wondering if i should have primed it first. I used that pj1 or something. The paint that is supposed to match factory colors. also after i painted it someone told me to put it in an oven and let it back for about 2 hours and this will help that paint get harder or more durable is that true or did i fall for something? one more question has anyone used the grip tape that you can cut to your desire? Does it also work to help protect the paint? i heard that they have a clear and i was wondering if i put it on my frame would it take that ubuse of my boots and so the frame would look better longer? (I just painted the frame) and could you put it on the motor were your boots come in contact with the motor or would it melt and look like crap. If you didn't understand a word i said then let me know and i will try to explain better?
P.S. Thanx everyone for all your help you have helped me rebuild my R i am hoping to get it finished this sat.

Default painted cases and grip tape question??????????

Isn't grip tape the sticky sandpaper that comes on skateboards?3M makes a thick clear material that you can stick on painted surfaces to protect them. The military uses it to protect the blades of helicopters when use in sandy conditions (I wouldn't think you would have to worry about it comming off).I've also seen it on new pickup trucks in the area of the rear wheel wells to protect the paint from chipping from rocks.I hear its very expensive though. As far as heat I'm not sure how hot the outside engine cases can become so it could melt the adhesive. However it works great on the frame where your boots rub.You may be able to get some from a auto dealer or maybe a bodyshop.
