Default Helping a Grizz breath???

Has anyone had success with snorkeling a new Grizz. Already have K&N, side panels cut, valves adjusted etc. etc. Gas in tank and air in airbox way to hot to make best power and run proper. I am going to snorkel air box, not only for deeper water but mainly for cooler air. Anyone done this yet? Thanks.

Thanks Hellfish. I've been to their site before. This time I am actually looking to hear a report from someone that has used a snorkel of somekind with favorable results. Anyone fiqured out how to cool these things to your satisfaction and not just Yamaha's. Thanks.

Default Helping a Grizz breath???

hey bushwacker
i snorkled my belt drive out of pvc, and it worked good. if you dont go that deep, and just want cooler air, then that pritty easy to do also. take a 1/4 in drill bit, and tape a upside down v on the gas tank cover right above the snorkle top. then make a nice looking design inside the upside down v, and drill as many holes as possible. this allows alot more cool air into the carb, and works real good.
as for keeping the grizzly cool. do some side panel mods, and heat tape, or dip the exhaust pipe. i heat taped mine, and it worked great. doing the side panel mods, heat taping the pipe, and letting cool air in made a world of differance!!!
good luck

Thanks mich660griz. I've thought of drilling holes in the gas tank cover but here in Alberta we get alot of rain and alot of deep, long, wet holes on our foothill trails and did'nt know if I wanted to have holes right above the air tube. I've already cut many holes and vents in my side covers, heat shielded the gas tank, wrapped the head pipe and all mods have helped some. I'm thinking of ceramic coating pipe and muffler but then I'll be back to major steam up into air intake every time we smell water. I guess I'm just a little sour that Yamaha hasn't stepped up to the plate to address some of these obvious design problems. I'll be snorkelling the belt drive right away. Thanks for the reply.
