Undercut vs 02 Tranny or Just Do Both
#1
First Question: Has anyone actually undercut their 01 tranny? Has anyone had any problems with an undercut tranny?
Second Question: Has anyone had any 02 tranny failures?
Third Question: If undercutting the tranny works, why not do the same process on an 02 tranny and have a rock solid transmission?
Fourth Question: Out of everyone that has had a failed tranny, how hard would you estimate you are on your machine? I'm not talking about getting a woody when you ride either! Just kidding. 1 = easy, 10=beating the crap out of the machine.
Thanks,

Im about a 9, would prolly be about a 6 if I didnt weigh so much.
I have heard of some spuratic few and far between '02 failures but nothing specific like 2nd gear on '01s. The jury is still out for me and undercutting, I understand the principle of it but I am not sure I would want to mess with the stock yamaha crap at all. I just dont trust yamaha's cast dogs to take undercutting.

I ride about a 8 or 9. I'm pretty sure that most of us bought the Raptor to ride the crap out of it. I mean come on 660 cc's what did they expect. They ( Yamaha) advertised it as the baddest thing on the planet and knem it would be rode hard. Then they claim abuse. I change my oil frequently not every 5 hours like the dealer recommends. My dealer replaced the first tranny, but with 01 gears. The second one which has started slipping didn't last near as long. Been to the dunes 3 times and some misc. trail riding nothing hard

Mine is Very Well maintained and I would say 9 if not 10, If something looks funny, sounds funny, smells funny, acts funny or is just funny, I replace it and not wait for it to fail. I'm working on my second 01' tranny aswell.
