Help With Busted Footpeg Mount
#1
I need some help here. I took my Cycle Country plow off yesterday to find that the two nuts that hold on the footpeg bolts had come off. They look like the press in type. The bracket is welded to the frame with two small holes on the bottom. The problem is that I don't think that the holes on the bottom of the bracket are big enough to weld through. The only option I can think of is to take it in and have the whole mount or part of it cut off so you can get behind it to weld the nuts on. I love my AC, but this just seems like a poor design to have press in nuts on this type of mount. Just wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem or could offer up any better ideas. I posted a picture of what I'm talking about to better explain: Picture of Footpeg
Thanks,

When i took the bolts off of that area to mount my plow, one of the bolts came cross threaded from the factory. I was able to get it back with the mount on bu i will never take it off for fear of not being able to get it back on. I agree crappy design. Sorry for your bad luck.

hey due,
i have a 2001 400 cat and a moose pow and the same thing happened to mine. i managed to get the bolt startedand semi-tight. i like tho take my plow mount off for the summer for trail riding... what i did try is soldering the nut back in with silver solder but it didn't work.. the next thing that i will try is to braze it in.. if anyone tries it before i get a chance to let me know if it worked.. or if you fix it let me know how.

Well I called Cycle Country to ask them about the problem. No luck getting anyone at Arctic Cat. The CC guys were very friendly and helpfull. They said it was only the second one they had ever heard of doing this. He said that the factory nuts just weren't "friction welded" well enough. Their suggestion was pretty much what I had come up with after thinking about it. Just drill out the holes on the frame mount the size of the nut and weld the nuts into place to the inside of the drilled out hole. This will probably make them better than from the factory. I am going to go ahead and do this to the other side while I'm at it. I hope that helps you out 400catman. Thanks for your responses.
