Need Bomber Help on Picking a New DS
#1
Hey guys,
I know there is a pretty big Bomber following here:
My good friend is just about to pull the trigger on a used DS. He has made up his mind on this particular model, just notone in particular yet.
I am wondering if there is some things they had changed. Like don't get the 2000 they had the old ....... whatever.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

No real big changes, the oil filter cover is larger on an 01 than an 00, so it fits a larger oil filter, but an 00 can easily swap the cover to accept the bigger filter, besides that the newer the better(less used) but no real changes, the Baja has some significant differances.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think there was cooling fan problems on the 2000 model as well as a shoddy chain roller. Also maybe twictchy steering? once again i'm not sure on the year models, but I just remember hearing stuff about those things. Try to get the latest model of course. Can't think of any major problems (engine, tranny, etc)

2000 needs has one extra step in changing the oil - easy though - bleed screw - I do it on my 2001 anyways to get all the old oil out.
2000-2001 have older style A-arms which are not as nice as the newer ones - most people that get on my 2001 drop their jaw when I tell them it is better on the newer ones. They can't believe how good it is on the 2001 DS.
2000-2001 Get an aftermarket chain roller $20 from James Lucky for the UPP roller.
I think the newest quads have a different shifting fork (harder).
2000-2001 have had a number of fan changes. Bomb went to a different mount that has some rubber isolation to it. I lost two bolts on mine a while back and have never had a problem with mine - maybe 4 bolts holding it to the frame without any vibration isolation is too much.
Nothing worth steering away from one model year vs. another.

In addition to the bleed screw being used for the oil change in an '00, there can be and have been instances where the quad is rolled (not that I've had that happen) and air can become trapped. The only way to get the air out is to remove the oil filter cover and loosen the bleed screw.
I think Marky Nark had all the changes from year to year listed on his website at one point -
