Default Oil changing Hints or suggestions to make life easier.

I have never personally changed my oil in the Rap. I have a service manuel and it looks quite strait-forward; however, does anyone have any suggestions, helpful hints, or common things overlooked or done incorrect. Thanks

The biggest thing is alway's change you're filter when you change you're oil! Also if you ride in the mud alot and you're bike gets hot then I would recomend that you change it more frequent!

I have found, after I take off the oil filter and lean it alittle to help drain. Then I pull the bottom bolt then lean alittle that way. I always seem to get alittle more oil out. The next thing I'm going to do is get the scotts cleanable oil filter will save in cost in the long run and looks good too.

find you a small container that'll fit under the oil tank to catch the oil, it'll save a big mess.

They sell long, slanted plastic funnels at Wal-Mart, Autozone, etc. that fit right under the oil tank and then can direct the oil into whatever you want, not spilling a drop.

I put an empty milk jug down on the ground and then tape the small end of the funnel at an angle into the jug. It holds it right under the drain and then I just pull the plug.

On the lower bolt, I do the same thing but with no funnel but use another milk jug with the top cut off, but the handle still on there. That way you can pour all the oil from the cut jug into the other one, seal it up and take it for disposal.

The only oil that you get on anything with this method is the oil you get on your hands from removing the drain plug.

That is, until you are a total dumbass and kick the open milk jug and it spills all over your garage, Suburban, baby stroller, etc........
