It sounds as though your situation is not real demanding,so without suggesting $4,000 to $7,000 quads that are ideal for very regular long riding demanding trips,I would say for hunting and once a month trails I would buy the cheapest best condition used 4x4 quad you can find 250cc or bigger.Yuor basic honda 300 and suzuki 250 are more than enough to accomplish your task. Some say your size and body weight could change this however unless your bigger than 6'2"and weigh more than 250lbs these would work just fine!later guy.hope this helps

GMan,

I was able to pick up a '92 Honda TRX 300 here in the Houston area for $2,000. It is in good condition with no evidence of abuse. I did spend another $150 to get the carburator overhauled and replace an axle bearing. Being that I keep it out-of-state and only ride it a few times each year, it should last for some time.

I also own a Kawasaki Bayou 220 that serves as my primary ride. My only regret in buying a Kawasaki is not buying the Bayou 300 instead. The additional 80cc makes quite a difference in the utility class.

Just don't get in a hurry. The best deals usually appear when you're not looking.

Good luck.

GMan,

Just keep a close eye on the classified ads in your local newspaper. Now is the time to buy used since hunting seasons are ending with many owners needing some extra cash. The next two months should be especially hot for the used market with income tax and Christmas bills now appearing on people's doorsteps.

Check the paper every morning since the best deals usually go quickly. Just don't get over zealous or disappointed if you loose what seemed to be a great deal. It may cause you to make a bad mistake on the next deal you see. And as I said before, the best deals seem to appear after you've stopped looking.

Keep track with the prices being paid in your area buy calling sellers if only to see how quickly they sold or have yet to sell for a given price. I have found the used prices vary greatly from one area to another.

Good luck.
