Need help Suzuki Quad Master 500
#1
Guys I need some help I can't buy a new Quad this year so I need to figure out how to make this one perform. It is stock right now and has only about 200 miles on it. It is a 2001. I want to get more bottom and mid range punch. Machine goes everywhere I have tried to go but I want it to come on harder. I am fairly new to ATVs and Motorcycles, and don't know much about hopping them up. I have tried looking but most the info I am finding is for sport ATVs. I need recomendations on pipes, air filter, jets, clutch kits what ever will wake this thing up. I need to know which ones first to get the most bang for the buck. This thing will only do just under 50 on hard pack and can hardly spin the tires with the steering cranked in 2x4. Help me please guys, My wife refuses to consider letting me buy a new bigger quad so I have to make this one run harder.

go with the cluch kit. it will let you spin the tires better in the mudd. it like having a high stall speed converter. i put one on my 2002 vinson, it works very well. it cost 200 bucks from high lifter, and was fairly easy to install.

macgiver thanks for the info, I had another person tell me to try the clutch kit first too. Does it cause any problems in technical terrain or heating problems for the trany. I like the idea of picking up performance without having to tear down the motor. I will be checking into a clutch kits.

I have heard so many people talk about a clutch kit, remember the quad master is a semi-auto manual. the clutch kit has the same effect as my Foreman (not much) it just raises your stall speed. If you want some added performance go with a pipe, filter, and main jet. My Foreman was very doggy so I put a Supertrap IDS-X exhuast (expensive) second air snorkel, Twin Air filter, and raised main jet. I went from a stock #130 main to a #140 and raised my needle (lowered clip) to the 6th position. It made a huge difference, no comparison.
If I were not experienced in sport quads and maintenance I would have purchased the K&N power up kit as it has all the instructions, its a little expensine though ($130,00)
Good Luck

actually, 03FOREMAN, the quadmaster is an auto, the quadrunner is a manual. 4x4TERROR, you can put a vinson cam and piston in your Q-master and that will really wake it up. you could probably use an HMF pipe for the vinson on your quad since they have basically the same engine. however, you may have to make it fit(ie. the mounts may not fit), but no big deal, just get a big metal pipe clamp and put it around the pipe and the frame bar on the rear of your quad. of course there's also the filter and jet kit. however, the clutch kit will also wake up the bottom end of your Q-master. but it will not help mid range or top-end.(it hurts top end and i think mid-range to) if you dont want to go into the engine i suggest the HMF/Filter/Jet kit

Thanks, I will call one of the shops up here tommorrow and see what they will charge, going to compare the costs for a big bore kit or just putting the vinson piston and cam and of course a pipe and filter kit with either one. I would like to leave the clutch alone if possible I've heard they are hard on belts.
