I am 15 years old but i am not very big i only wiegh about 120 pounds and am only about 5'4" . I am trying to decide between a 2003 Blaster and a 400EX i was wondering which was faster. somebody told me that the 400EX was and was just wondering what it would take to make the Blaster faster. I am planning on racing MX with my buddy who owns a 98 blaster.

 

400 ex is faster, better for mx, but not as cheap.

 

400ex kills a blaster in everything.

 

in my opinion you can make a blaster as fast as a 400ex, but the suspension isn't near as good. If you are planning on racing for a while i would buy a 400ex over a blaster for the simple fact that someday your gonna grow, and if you get big and talll you may not be happy with the blaster. some people that ride blasters are big tho, so you need to ride both and see what one you like, but think about the futer also.

The only thing i think my blaster is really good for is to ride around on 2 side wheeles everywhere i go, its fun and i get alot of looks when i do that, i took alota time and have leared how to turn it both ways while on 2 side wheels, but as far as speed, mine will keep up with an ex but i have never had an all out drag with one, but ide have to say the ex on handling and for mx.............

 

the 400ex is somewhat faster, but the blaster is no slouch. if upgrading quads isnt financially feasible, which to most people it isnt, then a switch to some better tires, and new shocks will make a world of difference. my cousin has a 97 or so blaster, and when we got rid of the "balloon tires" it really helped the performance. from what i understand, banshee and raptor shocks, both front and rear, will transfer to you blaster. this would be a cheap upgrade if you have a atv junkyard or a friend with lots of extra parts lying around.

 

from what i understand about your post, you are looking for a NEW quad. in that case, the 400ex would be a better choice by far. of course, for the same price, you could have a z400 or a kfx 400, which are both better than the 400ex. i would definately suggest one of those over either the 400ex or the blaster.

 

about the suspension on the shee to the blaster the fronts are longer and the back is actually shorter i used it for ice racing

 

The Blaster will never handle like an EX. The EX blows it away in power. I don't make that statement lightly. Just look in DW pics in front. You see alot of "Hi, I am a teenage girl and this is my new blaster."
Enough said.

 

i think the blaster has to be faster because of how much bigger and priceier it is compared to the 400EX.and in all the magazines that is like the whole pro line.. will the fury of the hardcore race blaster ever be stopped??? the world may never know
