After riding Sunday afternoon, right before we loaded up for the day I noticed that when I would try to shift into neutral to sit and watch some guys that it was getting harder to shift up into neutral. It felt almost like it was sticking. Has anyone else experienced this with their 400, if so what is it. Could it be that it had just gotten hot from riding hard all day?

You might just need to adjust your clutch cable.

GB400 is probably right. Check the free play at the end of your clutch lever. On many quads it should have about 1/2 inch of free play. If you clutch isn't releasing fully, especially after running hard it's difficult to catch neutral when sitting still. If adjusted properly you'll find that shifting will require much less pull travel on the clutch to shift, allowing for quicker shifts.

use a nickel between the perch and lever to set your freeplay..thats the amount of play it should have

My 2000 400EX does the same thing as well, and I agree that the first thing to check is your clutch adjustment. I noticed though, that mine is harder to get into neutral after hard riding (when it's hot), especially after putting 10 hours or so on a fresh oil change--it shifts great when the oil is fresh, and progessively notchier as the oil breaks down. All you can do if it feels notchy is pull forward a bit, and it should then go into neutral (my Warrior had the same problem).
