Hey,

just got a '97 Warrior. the guy i bought it from had taken the rear brakes off (new rear bearings). he gave me a brake caliper, and pads, plus the old rotor. but he lost the rotor bolts. the mechanic at the yamaha dealer gave me the bolts today for free (very nice). but upon closer examination, i realize the the rotor is slightly warped. so what should i do? will a slightly warped rotor cause problems? i'm guessing it could, so what's a good rear rotor? i'm flat broke at the moment so cheaper is better. the rocky mountain catalog has a Titax rotor for $50. are they pretty good?

also, how close should the front brake pads be too the rotors? i was looking at them today and it almost looks like they're just barely hitting the rotors. also when i roll it there's a sliding/grinding sound that seems to close from the front brakes. is there any way i can adjust the front brakes?

not related to brakes but,

how much play should there be in the chain? i'm trying to decide if it's tensioned correctly.

Did you ever ride in a car that had warped rotors? When you press the brakes the whole car shakes, and you can't stand using the brakes, now on the warrior I dont think have a warped rotor will be this severe but it may have a minor affect only when using your rear brakes of course, unless the fronts are warped also. The clearance from the front brake pads to the rotors is in very small measurments (can't remember offhand) but it should be touching the rotor. For the squeaking noise it could be 1) need new brake pads(check how much pad is left)2)something damaged on the rotor or 3)wheel bearing, an easy way usually to tell if its the wheel bearing is if the noise is loud and it only is loud when you turn in one diesction, may do it to both sides if both wheel bearings are shot. When checking the chain tension, (again cant remember offhand...lol) remember that it is going to get more slack when you sit on it so make it a little tighter than its says to do, you can probably find the specifications off of a yamaha website, anything else let me know,

also if none of the above ideas listed are problems with the front brake area then try just using brake cleaner of any kind and clan the calipers, pads, and rotors, may stop the squeaking if nothing else does

it seems like a fairly obvious process, but i've got one question about getting the new rotor on. once you get the tire off, how does the hub come off?

also, how do i bleed the brakes once i've gotten everything installed?

After you take the tire off there should be a large nut with a cottor-pin going through it. Then after you take that out you should be be able to take the hub off. As for bleeding the brakes 1)while you are doing this make sure that the resevoir is full 2) look on the caliper, you should see a fitting that looks like a grease fitting, that is the brake bleeder. 3) While you bleed the air out of the brakes pump the brakes at the same time (will be easier with anothe peron to help you), that it, anything else let me know
