Default 87,88,89 250r witch one?

Well, heres some info about them. The 86 model had a short crank rod which created more of a "hit" in the powerband and it reved quicker then the 87-89 long rod engines. The 86 also had lower fifth and sixth gear rations then the later 87-89 models. The engine had a different rear mount on earlier years, the swingarm was shortend about 1 1/2 "s for 88 - 89 and it was also now made of aluminum vs steel. The 88 was the only year available in red and 88 is also the year that Honda put the headlight in the front platic VS on the handlebars. The 89 had a clutch update but that can be put in any year 250R engine. So say the 86 was the strongest year for the frames but then again it's sufferd more years of abuse then the other years. There are alot more things different in them but it's small differences like in wiring harnesses, tool kits, different tail lights..small things...an 89 would be the ideal 250R to get cause it had the most inprovements and it's the newest, but they will all be just about the same once you get them built up. The 86 engine with the 89 clutch update would be ideal...for me atleast but it depends on your riding style.

Good luck.
