I was wondering what changed over the years on the Warrior? I have a '87 Warrior and the 2000's look basically the same (except for where the light is located). Would the motor mounts line up? I was just wondering.

well correct me if i'm wrong but the 87 has a recoil back up on the motor.. more uneeded weight on a heavy maching.... other than that i cant think of any major changes and yes the motors SHOULD be interchangeable as far as the mounts are concerned

Your right.....but i think it is a good idea having it on there just in case the battery dies or something else happens to the electric start and you are a few miles away from home.

hmm.........I think it might have been early 90's because a guy that I work with has a 92 warrior and i have an 87. the mounts on the 92 are in the same place as the new ones but same style lights as mine. the 88's look the same as the 87.

The motor mounts will NOT line up. In either 88 or 89 i think it waz 89, Yamaha moved the engine back 2 inches in the frame to help stabalize it. The also made other changes but not very major ones.

I beleive it was 89 all the cahnges happened. the changed the headlight and motor location and they shortened the swingarm (I think an inch) on the revised version. Other than that I think the only thing that has changed was the colors. Shame on Yamaha, where is the DOHC and liquid cooling. Don't get me wrong I think it is a great quad (I have own two) but how can they spend so much of the R&D budget on the suoerbikes like the R1 and leave the quads as dinos (same for the the much need update on thye Banshee). I'ts not just Yamaha all other manufactures have slacked off (Honda starting back with the 400EX) so I'm hoping for some cool new sport quads soon!!! I have heard alot of romors but I beleive a new quad when I see I. Anyone form then factories or have good conections have any comments.

The 1987 and 1988 Warriors do differ somewhat From the 1990 and newer models. The biggest difference is that they moved the motor back 2 inches to give it a better center gravity. Also the swingarm was redesigned to give it better shock leverage. Other than that its pretty much the same ride.

1998 Warrior, Yoshimura pipe, Uni filter, air box mods, jet kit, twist throttle, FMF 909 bars and levers, Hole shots, Graydon bumper
