saw a bunch of ds's run at snake hunt and was pretty impressed for thumpers. ive decided to move on from my old school mentality of gotta have the big bore high compression two stroke to have fun. getting tired of brusing my feet kicking those things over. i have a race bike and that is the only 2 banger im gonna keep. so i've been kicking around the idea of buying a thumper with elec. start and i wont own anything under 500cc. so ther is only a few choices for me and i have always liked the ds look/ also like how it is big and doesnt make me feel like a giant riding a mini bike. so i thought i would ask about the 650's, the new ones out now, or if it is worth spending 5500 to 6500 on a new one? or should i find a good used one. Is the baja model that much better to spend the extra 500 bucks? your opinions are appreciated oh and i am not looking to mod the bike out much, just prolly a pipe. dont want to jack with it all the time since that is why i am getting away from the 2 bangers

The DS is a great ATV. I rode dirt bike my whole life and didn't know what I was missing until I bought mine.

Just about every DS you saw run at Snake Hunt is on this forum, and most the fast Rappy's too. I was just like you when I started looking at the Big-bores, I was tired of tinkering with my Banshee and that quick powerband, was no longer fun, in the trails. So I wanted something LOW maintanence, and still had some good power to stay competitive. I went and test rode a Rappy and the DS, adn I took home the DS. For my size, it was the only quad for me. And I also new the reputation or the Rotax engine, and thier relationship with BMW, so I new it was going to be EXTRA reliable(AND IT IS).

I screwed up and met Jbomb, and Bigheadcereals, and later met DSmike(and steve)LMAO!!. I have been modifing NON-stop(when I can afford it) ever since. Wanting my DS to run like Mikes(everybody wants to be like mike), and also make it a head turner like Jbombs, and Bigheads. One of the very hardest things to do to a DS is leave it stock! you have to have some major will-power because these thumpers can RUN! when pushed.

Biggerisbetter.

Oh!! if you think you have the will-power to remain stock, buy a new Baja, if not.....Buy a 2000 for about $3000,and start MODDING!!

Go with the Baja...you will not be disappointed. It is definitely worth the extra $$$. You might even want to consider going with the new 'Baja X' model that's coming out for 2004. At any rate, whatever form of DS you decide suits you best, you will discover that it is a well-built, dependable, comfortable, all-out fun machine to ride. I don't think you can go wrong with this machine!
