Default I need help changin oil

Hi guys,

I am new here, so i want to get some advice from some experimented guys.
I have a 01 Raptor that i just bought, i have to change the oil, am goin for the Yamalube 20W-40.
It's my first atv and i want change the oil by myself, i read the manual, so my question is :

It seems to be easy, right ????
They say i have to empty the old oil from the 2 different places ( engine and crankcase ), after emptying it do i just have to replace the bolts and fill the oil tank ???

They also say i have to pour ???? What does it mean ?

Thank you very much guys, i will really appreciate your help.

1. Drain the crankcase and oil reservoir.

When you drain the reservoir, use a deflector (like foil) to keep the oil off the frame.

2. Replace the two plugs.

3. Replace the oil filter.

4. Pour about 3/4 of a quart of fresh oil in the reservoir, then start and run the engine for about 15 seconds to pull the oil from the reservoir to the engine.

5. Pour the rest of the fresh oil into the reservoir.

6. Run the engine again for 2 minutes.

7. Check your oil level.

8. Go ride.

1 quart =946ml

Drain the oil from the engine and the oil tank. Replace drain bolts, do not over tighten. Pour 1 1/2 quarts (1419ml) of oil into the oil tank. Start the quad, lightly rev it a few times, turn it off and add 600ml (a little more than 1/2 quart) more oil into the oil tank. If your replacing the oil filter also instead of the 600ml add 900ml more oil into the tank. Start the quad, run it until operting temprature, turn it off, wait a few minutes, recheck the oil level.

If you put more than about 1000ml of oil in the tank without running the engine briefly, the tank will overflow.

dooboarder,
you can do it how you like but, on an engine that holds almost 2 1/2 quarts, starting the quad with just 3/4 of a quart of oil in it isn't a good idea, imo. I've changed my oil for almost 2 years on the 2 Raptors that I own and I've always put in 1 1/2 quarts then fired up the engine and then filled it up the rest of the way. Never once has it overflowed. Probably because the manual tells you to put in 1.75 litres (1.54imp quarts, 1.85 US quarts) then start the engine for a few seconds, then fill with the rest. If you need a manual you can get a free downloadable version on my website in my signature. The oil change recommendations are on page 3-22
