Default NotuRaptor2- or anyone-Need help with oneway removal-Please

Help! I am trying to remove my one way bearing for the starter and have not gotten very far. I can not get the engine cover off. After taking all of the bolts out, it is loose all the way around except it seems to be hanging in the starter area. Is the starter holding it? Does the starter need to come off also? I am afraid to pry very hard on the case. Or do you have to remove the small gear on the end of the starter shaft? Any help will be appreciated!!!

Thanks evreyone. I kept screwing with it and got it off. Now to find a way to hold the flywheel and break the nut loose.

IMPACT WRENCH IS THE EASYEST WAY I HAVE FOUNDTO GET IT OFF BUT TO GET IT BACK ON YOU WILL NEED A VERY GOOD STRAP WRENCH OR BUILD A TOOL TO DO IT.

When you say strap wrench, are you referring to one with the plastic handle and belt that you cinch up around the flywheel? I bought one from Sears today but it would not hold, but I was trying to use a break over handle and not an impact. Should this work with an impact? I was afraid I would mess up the nut if I used an impact on it. How about getting it back on? I don't know how much the tool cost from Yamaha but from the looks of it, I am sure it is not cheap. Thanks again.

Duramax,

The wider strap from Sears should work. You MUST spray the flywheel with brake cleaner. Spray the strap too if you got any oil on it. At first, I didn't think it was going to work either. Don't tighten the strap all the way before pulling against it. Seems like you can get a better grip this way.

Glad to see you got the cover off. How was the gear? Did you only have to replace the one-way?

Good luck.

NotuRaptor2 - I haven't gotten that far yet. I couldn't get the Sears strap to hold quite good enough using the break over so will try again with the impact. The only gears to come out so far look just fine. I haven't found any signs of the spring coming apart in the bottome of the case so far. Hope to give it a try with the impact this afternoon. Did you mention before that you had a hard time getting the bolts out of the oneway? I am thinking I read somewhere about them being hard to get out and break off easily. Any suggestions here? Thanks again.
