Hi,
I just picked up my first atv- a 1998 Arctic Cat 454 4x4 with 3900 miles. I looked it over and it appears to have been very well taken care of and should work for what I need it to do. After looking around numerous sites it appears that this is the best forum for atv's, particularly AC. I've been an active motorcyclist for over 10 years but am new to the atv world so I'm sure I'll need advice along the way .

hey welcome man. this is a great site. i have a 98 ac wheeler also. comes in handy alot. do you have a winch on yours. if you dont, get one. i cant even begin to tell you how many times ive had to use mine. i ve gone muddin in some deep stuff and you dont always make it through and a winch can come in handy. it also helps with a lot of tuff jobs. i once got the lawnmower stuck while mowing a wet spot on our lawn.(dont ask what possesed me to mow that portion of the lawn) but anyway, i pulled it out with my ac no problem. keep us posted on how you like your wheeler.

No, I don't have a winch yet but probably will before long. I've been zipping around my property on it and enjoying it. I mainly got it to do work but will be doing some trail riding soon and hunting in this winter. Since I don't have an owner's manual (I am going to order one) I am figuring things out on my own. QUESTION: Is there a fuel reserve on this thing? I found a petcock switch under the tank and right now it points up. It seems like there are two other positons- horizontal and down. Is one of these reserve or does it just turn off the fuel?

Hey TnDuc!!
Glad to see another 454 on the forum!! I purchased my 98 new and have had NO problems with it. Hope yours treats you the same!

greasmky is right on the fuel valve, the thing I hated about the old cats is the location (kept burning my arm when I shut it off after riding) so I purchased the new style tank and put it on my 4x4. The only tough part was cutting the hole for the fuel valve. Have fun with your new ride!!!

Heya, welcome. I got the same machine + a few CCs. Post often! I have a manual if you need anything until you get yours.

Yes. The parts needed are

1ea 0570-066 Fuel Tank Assembly
1ea 0470-408 Gas valve ****
1ea 0423-146 **** screw
2ea 0423-130 Fuel Tank Mounting Bolts
and to make it pretty 1ea 0470-404 Fuel shut off grommet.

I will be changing the tank on my wife's 2x soon. I Have replaced the old fuel caps 4 times because the top clear piece brakes and also sick of burning my arm!!!
