Default How hard is it to.... (please read)

My dealer is taking his sweet time on getting my new differential in and he left me in a bad situation. I am getting my quad back tommorrow but since I will be at work in the morning I will not have time to pull the wheels off of it and take it somewhere to mount my new MUDLITES on my rims (every place will be closed). To make things worse my buddys and I planned a day of wheeling tommorow afternoon. What I was wondering is, is it possible to mount the tires on the rims myself. My dad always told me about how they used to mount there own tires when he was younger but I never tried it before. Has anyone ever done this and if so how hard is it, and how do you do it. I tried the old spray the tire down with butane and then light it but I could never get it right!?! Please help I can't go mudding with my stock tires when I have my new tires sitting in the garage now can I?

It is not too hard to change atv tires with a couple of pry bars and/or big screw drivers. The only problem with this is that it scratches and dents the hell out of aluminum rims(never tried it on steel wheels). If you're not worried about your rims looking like crap, just stick a pry bar in the area where the rubber meets the rim (bead area) pry the tire up in that one spot. Holding the tire up in one place with a pry bar, Move down the rim 4-6 inches and do the same with another pry bar. Continue the process until one side of the tire is completely off the rim. You'll see how to get the rest of the tire off once you get there. TO put the new tire on, just repeat the process backwards

JaMeS

P.S. (You can always just cut the old tires off with a saw which will save your rims and a little time.) also have bolt cutters ready as there is a massive bundle of wires running around the bead area.

You guys ready for this!!

Try a old handy man jack. You know the big one that hooks to your bumper!

Take the hook part and hook it up to your 2 inch reciver hitch."Take out reciever, slide hook into opening"

then take the base plate and sit it in top of the tire. The base plate needs to beright on the edge of the tire and barely clearing the rim. then jack it down using the weight of the truck and this will break down the beads.

If you are not getting enogh bite with the base plate, remove the hook from the reciever and go under the hitch opening so that your plate on the jack is running long ways. This will give you more of a surface area to work with. It will also help to grap more ruber on the tire and prevent it from slipping.BE SURE TO TAKE OUT YOUR CORES.

if this is unclear let me know I will try to explain better

I dont think this will work on the 2003 models , but on the older model Cats it is very simple to fix flats buy dismounting the tire and patching them on the inside or mouting new tires because you can use the very common Coats tire machines on them. Must people dont know that the old Coats 440 will go down to 12" rims. I have done this many times with ATV and garden tractor 12" tires. The problem with the newer Cat wheel is they dont have a center hole in them. Another problem you my have is finding someone at a gas station to try this as ATV tires have a well earned reputation for being a real bitch to change.
