Arctic Cat 500I Weak points?
Does the Arctic Cat 500I have a weak point?
Is it the axles?
Just so I know, what is the cost of a replacment axle, can I repair it in the field, and is it interchangable left to right, front to rear?
If there is another weak area for the Cat, could you point it out ?
Would you also let me know the cost of those repairs?
Thanks....

generally speaking, a cv axle cost about $150. its a 20 minute job to replace. if you have tools and diff fluid you could do it anywhere. left to right is the same axle, front to back, not sure. weak point? for durability its probly the axles for 03. i dont think its too much an issue anymore.

Hey while I got you guys, I sat on a Cat the other day.. The seat needs help.. Is there a way to modify the seat? In general make it flatter in the front so you don’t feel like you have to climb back up all the time... Make it function more like the Kawasaki Prairie 360?
Thanks...
Thanks...

From what I've heard, the axle problem seems to be a bad batch of axles that got onto some 03 models. I have an 02 500i, never a problem with the axles. I understand that putting on a lift kit can cause CV joint problems, but with all the ground clearance the Cat already has, that seems rather unnecessary.
Only problem I've had in over 600 miles is the 1st gear lamp going out. N and 2-5 still light up, so it's probably a burned out bulb. Pretty trivial. Otherwise, it's been put gas in and go. Excellent machine, has been a real workhorse on the farm, and plenty of fun, too.
