i have searched and found two contradictory ways to adjust the cable.

one says to start in 4wd and the other says to start in 2wd?

which is correct and if possible can you give me the link to the site.

i know this old topic but i just realized i can do it and want to do it ther correct way.

Check out thread # 188862. It explains in good detail how to do this mod. I had to trim back the sleeve covering the shifter rod to allow the handle to be pulled out far enough to get all 3 positions. Be careful and don't trim it too much, about 1 inch should be right. Use a copper pipe cutter. Also be sure to test with all wheels off the ground. Mine works well except it sticks on occasion, and I have to rock the bike to disengage sometimes. I also painted a white line on the fender for the 4wd. limited slip position.

Here's the way to convert from 2wd & 4wd to 4wd & 4wd diff lock , unless your very mechanicly inclined thats what I'd do, there's a lot more work involved to get the 3 positions & lots of other bikes run 4wd full time anyway. First put the bike in 4wd position, next remove 10 head bolt that locks shift lever to shaft on the diff & pull lever off the shaft. Now put the bike in the 2wd position, go back to diff & install shift lever where it lines up on shaft & put bolt back on. Done!!!
