New mud bug tires
#1
My boy just purchased a new 500i and is preparing to order a set of mud bugs. We are in disagreement on tire size. The atv will be used often on mountain trails in the Montana and deep snow and mud. Also mud and trails in Missouri and Arkansas. I think he would be better off with 27-8-12's front and 27-10-12's back. He thinks a 27-12-12 rear would be better. I feel the 27-12-12 would be a disadvantage in snow. About 75% trail riding, and easy steering and good ride is important. Your advice would be appreciated.

I run 27-12's on the back and 27-10's on the front of my 400i.....it seems to work fine. The bike is very wide and quite heavy so the larger tires fit great. My pal runs 27-10's on the rear and 27-8's on the front of his Big Bear....as this bike is smaller, I believe he made a good choice as well.
Either way, your boy will want to invest in the AC fender extensions or he WILL be the muddiest guy in the group!

i bought my gators 28x10x12-28x12x12s at the end of feb and they worked great in the snow.because they dont dig in like the pizza cutter tires.they ride on top because there wider.but thats just my opinion on riding in the snow.

Run the 12's on the back. Its not going to effect steering, and it will stabilize better on sidehills (due to the extra width) as well as give more traction in mud (more tire to the ground). Stay with the 8's on the front though. Thats where your steering comes into play.

theres not much differance between the two tires they are almost identacle but you cant get the mudbugs in 28" sizes. if you had both tires side by side you can see the differance between the two. but to just look at them seperatly they look the same.
