Like to play in water beware!

Just discovered this weekend after drowning both 500 & a 300 Cat that Cat has run 2 carb vent hoses only couple inches above carb. Guess what, that's right, that muddy water you just spun up now runs right into the float bowl. Fortunatly it's easy to run them up to carb intake area to allow those quick dips you don't plan on.

I don't think those hoses lead to the float bowl; rather, I bet they are vent hoses for the vacuum-operated slide cylinder.
Raising the hoses to the air intake may be a good idea; also, you can extend the hoses, creating a U-shaped bend in them at the top and dropping the hoses back down, preventing sucking water into the carb assembly when playing submarine. With a U-tube arrangement as described, and airbox air intake above the water line, a carb will work fine when totally submerged. When you "surface," the small amount of residual water in the vent tubes drains out the bottom.
