Default A question for all you Arctic Cat 4x4 owners

I got 1300 miles on my 03 AC 400 auto since May and I love it. It had a vibration when I first got it, but that was fairly easy to solve. It has gotten me into and out of some pretty muddy areas.

try this

To fix the problem put one or two washers between the rear exhaust mount. You will have to remove the bolt holding the exhaust to the mount and slide the washers in between the mount and the exhaust. Make sure the washers are about .150 thick. Mine has washers about .112 thick and this cured the problem completely.

We have both an '03 400 4x4 and 300 4x4 and really enjoy them. The 300 has slightly less
ground clearance than the 400, but we've only hung it up once. The steering on the 300 is
easier than the 400 so it's a bit better around tight corners and stuff.

The 300 has an indicator for which gear your are in (1-5, as well as N and R), but the
the 400 only show N and R so you have to guess (or remember) which forward gear
you are in.

They've gone over everything we've tried, and even managed a few things we weren't
too sure about...

Hey guys Ive got a question about break in. I have just got like a 130 miles on my 03 400ai, and was wondering how long do you think break in and power gain takes. I can tell that it has loosened up some and gained "some" power, but was wondering how much more i can expect. Any opinions here?

To fix the vibration problem, I followed the suggestions that were posted above (washers). The only difference was that I used some heat resistant silicon under the washers. The other thing I checked was to make sure the exhaust pipe wasn't touching a bracket on the frame. To check, take the seat off and look down toward the exhaust pipe. You will see the exhaust pipe is fairly close to bracket on the frame (toward the back of the bike). If the exhaust pipe is touching, move it a bit.

OkB, you can look at your owners manual and it has the info you request. When in doubt, change the oil anyway. if you're like most of us, you go through some pretty bad stuff. Mud, water, debris and sand. Don't forget to replace the oil filter too. Your local auto parts dealer may have a better price for the filter, as oppossed to purchasing it from the cycle shop.
About the vibration somebody mentioned, once you adjust your exhuast system so it's not gringing your teeth, you may want to drop the skid plates and put wheather stripping along the rails at the bottom to absorb any vibrations from the plastic. Screw the plastic back to the underside of the quad and listen to quiet!

Excellent machine and excellent value.

I have to admit, I didn't know much about ATVs when I bought mine this summer. I was cleaning shelter belts on the farm and I got sick of pulling around branches. The closest dealer sold Cats, so I got one.

I'm extremely impressed with the machine. It's worked hard and been a lot of fun too. Only complaint, I thought a 1950 lb log chain would be enough, but nooooooooo, the Cat stretched her. Wow.
