Rear axle seal at 132 miles ?
I have 132 miles on my Cat 400 4x4 auto and I just noticed the right rear axle seal was leaking ,I don't feel like dropping it off at the dealer for a week for a seal .
I'm a auto mechanic have been for 15 years ,my question is ,is the seal easy to replace ? can I just pull the axle out without having to buy a repair Manuel ?
My other question is what kind of rear end fluid ? The closest Cat dealer is about a one hour drive .
Thanks for any help or advice Jwoods

Rear axle seal at 132 miles ?
the same one went out on mine as well. it is not that hard of a job to replace it. what you will need to do is pull the cv out. what i did was take the starr head bolts that holds the rear diff housing on to the diff. once that was out i could easyly pull the seal out. you might not have to do that, but i foud it easyer to go ahead and unbolt it. once i put the new seal in i put some permeiaseal (bad spelling) gasket maker around the diff and bolted everthing back up. you use 80-90 hypoid gear oil. it holds 8.5 oz hope this helps
