Hello everybody
I just got threw putting the first 100 miles on our AC 500 auto and 300. I have read messages on the oil before but check this out. The dealer told me the AC oil had additives for the wet clutch system for the automatic tranny and has a dye that allows you to see in the bulls eye on the 300, He said you could not see regular oil in it because of the color. This seems logical but when I asked can you use automotive oil in the 500 auto, he said I know people do but I dont recommend it.So $44 dollars later I had a case of AC oil. I thought Id use it until warrenty was up. I know the rating on atv oil is SG, automotive oil is SJ Do you 500 auto and 300 bike owners use automotive type oil or do you use atv oil? Hope you will shed some light. Thanks SLY

You don't need to use special motor oil. I have a '00 Suzuki quadrunner 500 (same engine) and use 10W-40 Valvoline. Haven't had any problems. Dealers are just trying to make a quick buck. check out this link http:www.nightrider.com/biketech/oiltest1.htm
I will probably go to a synthetic blend of Valvoline, but I won't use Suzuki brand motor oil at $6+ a quart. It would cost me $24 plus $12 for the filter each time I change oil.

The AC dealer says that just about any detergent oil is ok for the 500 Auto. He puts in chevron when you go in for service. The 300 on the other hand has a wet clutch and the oil for it should have friction modifiers in it. There is definatly a difference in the two clutching systems. Use your AC oil until its gone or just use it on the 300 and get Regular oil for the auto. BTW SJ oil meets all the criteria for SG and then some.
