Well I was changing my oil in my Arctic Cat 500 Thanksgiving day and I got to the part were I checked my axle's gear oil. Well I found water in the rear "pumpkin" but I could not check the front one because I din't have an L-wrench to fit it. So I am bring it in the shop to get the axle oil changed and they will see why I got water in there.(I was going to bring it in any way before I brough it all the way to the camp.)

So Andy, and you other guys the that have been in some high water I would advise you to check your axle fluid for water. If you don't know what it looks like with water in it I will tell you. I looks white almost milkly.

p.s What size wrench is used for the front diff.?

I haven't checked for water, but I did knock the drain plug on the rear end loose on a rock once. It only seeped out a little oil overnight throught though, and I just refilled it the next day and tightened it back. That is another thing that was improved on the Automatic 500. The drain plug doesn't sit in a place that a rock can hit it as easily on the rear end. I had forgotten about noticing that one.

Bill,
Are you shore? I know for a fact that the front diff. needs an L-wrench to be filled but not to be drained.

Are those repairs under warranty?
What type of modifications do you have on it?
Do you have boot guards?

I have an AC 99 500 4x4 and mine is currently in the shop for MAJOR transmission repairs as in cases and everything. So far we are at about $3000 so it is pretty munched. Anyone have other similar problems? I have had it in very deep water and have yet to have water problems with the differentals. I didn't need any sort of funny wrench to remove the drain plugs in mine, I found a deep socket worked fine.
Anfy where do you ride at, in that I mean what part of the country are you in?

Just one question how do you spend $3000 on a transmission when a new bike only cost $6000...

Atving has a good point. We rebuilt a transmission in a 86 Yamaha 225 and it cost about $400. Inflation can't be that much. I had the transmission rebuilt in a 1990 Chevy Silverado 4x4 and it cost $1200. I even considered that expensive. $3000 sounds like a screwing to me.
