Default Cooling Fan

I just bought a 2000 500 cc Cat. The fan comes on as soon as I turn the key on. The guy told me that all Arctic Cat do that, but now I know that was bull. Anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix it?

What you may have is an overide switch someone has installed.

Or you could have a bad cooling temp switch.

If it is the switch you can test it by un-hooking the connectors and applying a 12volt source to the switch when the motor is cold, if you recieve a 12 volt signal from the other wire coming out of the switch, then you need a new switch!

hope this helps!

NicktashCowboy-
I bought my 2000 Arctic Cat new and the fan always comes on when the ignition switch is turned on. If it doesn't, then you probably have a blown fuse- especially if you've been running deep water. Later model 'Cats went to a thermostatic type control that turns on the fan at a preset temp. Hope this helps.

Check lower left corner of radiator for temp switch. most cats have one but one year to year and a half they tried running full time and then went back to switch. Yours is probabley OK.

In 2000 thats how they came from the factory. Previous years had a sensor to control the fan but that gave a lot of trouble so in2000 they did away with it. You can add a switch to the power wire so you can turn off the fan when in water etc. Later models have a sensor that works not bad that you could install also.

Thanks everyone for the information. I got the answer faster from this site than my local dealer.
The fan is on all the time.
