My bike started making a sort of clunking sound last week after getting stuck in a mudhole. The noise is most noticeable when the engine is warmed up and the idle is turned down very low. You van actually feel the knock while putting your hand on the frame. My dealer tells me it is the clutch, he says it is in the shaft that the clutch slides onto. He claims that Honda's make the same noise only much louder, in fact he tells me that the Honda can be heard at higher speeds while driving. I listened to a used bike on the lot and it made the same noise too. The dealer says don't worry about it unless it gets worse. I have 3 months of warranty, but I am told if it lets go it will do a lot of damage. Has anyone else heard this noise. It could be quite normal and nothing to worry about. The machine is a 2000 AC400 4x4, so far I have had no problems but I only have 330 miles on it so far. This problem may not be present in the 500 Autos as they would'nt have a clutch. Any input would probably help me sleep better.

Regards,
Jim Bell

A friend of mine rides a 400 and his doesn't make any unusual noises. I think I'd take it back to the dealer as long as it's under warranty and get it repaired. Chances are--it'll get worse after the warranty expires and then the repair bill is all yours. Nothing mechanical ever fixes itself!!! Let Arctic Cat pay for the repair while you can.

Let cat foot the bill. Once it lets loose after the warranty expires, cat won't swing you any deal on repair costs.

I agree. Let (or make them) the dealer fix it before the warranty runs out.
