Jetting 2002 500 Auto
#1
I want to get better throttle response from my stock 2002 500. Before I add a clutch kit I want to get the mixture right. I ride at 2400 ft. I,m confused some say the stockers run rich and run better going down 1 or 2 sizes on the main and turning the fuel/air screw in a turn and I,ve read posts where people have increased the main. Which is it!
Bigcat I see you use a jet kit. What's your elevation and did you go bigger on the main or smaller. Also, are you you running a stock exhaust?
Any feedback is appreciated. There have been carb changes on the 03 and 04 models so I need info on the 02 only.
For any one having braking problems on the 02's the mastercylinder cover needs the vent slot opened up to get proper "breathing". This is crucial. I can lock all four wheels up with a 3/4" two finger pull.

Hey NewCatMan,
The dynoJet kit is worth every penny, Here is thier site Dynijet kit. I am at 3500 feet, and ride form there to 6500 feet and it runs great, way more power. I have a manual shift and what I use to do in 1st I can now do in 2ed.
Follow the instructions and the take it for a test drive and if your top end(speed) is low put one size bigger jet, ex: 132 jet to 134 jet. Thats what I had to do. And I had to the same thing on my buddies 2001 500act.
Yes I am running stock exhaust.
I think your Jet kit # Q621 because its an auto. Call them to check: 1-800-992-4993
I hope this helps.

Big Cat thanks for the quality response and site referral. I see that the Jet Kit for the autos are different than the standard shift models. I was tempted to just get a larger main jet then realized from the Jet Kit site the needle tapers are all different. This is probably the reason of your better mid-range response. I wonder why the jet kit would be different for the Autos.....same engine? Any clues out there?

Yes, the standards rev up faster than the autos, hence you have to go up another gear, 5 times.
The guys down at Dynojet did all the testing for you, thats why you pay the big bucks, its all in the needle and spring.
Plus they give you a trouble sheet so that you can tune the engine to its top performance.
