Our deer season on the White Earth Indian Reservation lasts till December 31st. All the deer in the photos were taken the 2nd week in November.

LOL.. i figured id dress him up for the photo..
actually it was a tie strap.. but i laff because i never really noticed it...
11 pointer went 237.. not to shabby for my first buck.

 

Through out that week there were around 10 or 12 of us more or less some frends but mostley inlaws (we are meat hunters). That week we harvested around 30 or so deer most of them bucks. I been hunting every weekend since. On the rez tribal members get 2 tags but we can also hunt for our elders.

I hunt a little north (area 211) of you. We also had good hunting. Colder then cold on opening day though huh? Our party's best deer was an 11 pointer, going about 215 pounds. It had a couple of nice drop tines. So what type of pistol are you holding in the picture?

 

You not kidding it was cold It hasn’t been that bad lately though. The pistol I use is a Desert Eagle .44 mag. I was going to sell I a while back then I found out that they don’t make them in Israel any more and the one I have is Made by IMI in Tel Aviv so I thought I had better hang on to it. Magnum Research must have contracted with another manufacture. I have shot deer with it but my main deer gun is a Austrian made Mannlicher Schoenauer in .308. I have a Ruger Mini-30 in 7.62X39 and I have shot a lot of deer with that but it just don’t have the shock and knock down power that the .308 haves. Believe it or not a few years back I was hunting with my son he was using the Mini-30 and I had the Mannlicher There were 2 doe about 80 or so yards away and I got them both with one shot!!! The bullet went through the first deer and into the neck of the deer standing behind her, they both dropped right in there tracks. After that, other then my pistol, it’s the only gun I use for deer. Both racks on the Arctic Cat were full of meat that day.

 

I been using the Encore pistol with a 270 caliber barrel. Gotta hand on tight cus she a kicker! Getting a deer with a pistol is a blast!
