Default diff. lock?

Was riding the other day and got in a situation where a diff lock would have been nice . Does anyone know if there is a company making ones for the 500 cats? Looked at the new 650 today and the axle looks the same but the lock looks like it comes in from the left side. looks like it is a manual operating cable. Any info appreciated

The 650 diff is completely different. I looked at swapping one in but couldn't find a cheap one. The mounting looks simialar but the driveshaft is different also, not sure about the axles, so it wouldn't exactly be a bolt in. The 650 is also a 3.6 ratio diff, the 500i manuals are 3.6 but the autos are 3.1.

i have looked into the 650 swap as well. it is going to be expensive. if you have a manual the gear ratio will be the same. this is what you will need to make it work: left cv joint out of the 650, left side of the front diff, ring gear out of the front, cable to activate the locker, and the electronic part on the diff as well. should be in the 1000 plus range.

well i aint going to blow smoke and tell you its nice. i have gotton use to it, i dont think it would be as bad if i did not have the wide tires up front. i made a bracket to move my tie-rod back about and inch and is some. this helps a bunch, kind of like having power steering, but it kills your turning radius.

there is something at jr grams that runs around 300 bucks, it is like a replacement diff case for the front end. its not a true diff lock but its awesome, it makes both of the front wheels spin but when there is pressure on the wheel it makes it spin slower so you can take corners easier but always keeps the wheel spinning.

Default diff. lock?

here ill copy it down for ya

J R Graham (you get 15% off anything over 75bocks)

Its made by high lifter
fully automatic 100% locking differential that is both durable and speed senstive to permit differential action in turns. using no switches cables air or exturnal corntols the detroit gearless locker is designed for the harsh enviroment of mud water rocks and other demanding trail hadzards. instead of gears it is based on a unique high strength steel disc assemble which allows one wheel to spin faster in a turn but no stop spinning.

while driving straight, the diff is locked providing full pwoer to each fron g wheel. when turning or cornering the diff allows the outside wheel to spin faster at ground speed. there is never a condition where one wheel is spinning and one is stopped.
