EZ when wondering about belt slippage in water one must consider the fact that the intake for the belt drive is about the same height as the engine intake. My point is that if the water is deep enough to drown the belt then it most likely will drown the engine as well. If the engine is sucking water then it doesn't matter if your on a auto or shifting gears.

The concern about water is because when we go out on the farm to check the cattle and so on, there is a creek that floods when it rains that we have to cross.
So does the 500 have a belt? And what about dust and mud getting into the 650s belt?
Sorry for being so picky, but need for it to last and thanks for more great information.

P.S. Black 32 we use snorkles on the atvs.

Thanks,
eazy

EZ dust really is not an issue I have had other brands with belt drive and not a problem with them or the cat. The 500 is offered in both belt drive and gears you can choose. If you use snorkels then you could always fabricate one for the belt drive intake as well. I am not familiar with a production unit but certainly one could be made.

One time I dumped my machine in the drink, got water in and stalled the motor, took two of my freinds to pull me out. When we got it out I drained the float, pulled the plug and started it. I rode it back home for about 5 miles at times going full speed to blow water out of the exhaust. Got home and one of my freinds said did you drain your belt and I totally forgot to do that cause I was more concerned about the oil. We pulled the plug and it started pouring out literally for 5 minutes. my point is I drove that sucker full of water and the belt never slipped once we were all impressed. Few oil changes later we were back on the trail. I had a big grin that day I was proud as a new Pa Pa.

Hey everyone, thanks again for some more great information. Went to the dealer here in Waco to look at the cats, and man, they paid more attention in drinking there coffee than helping me. Found out one thing about the ac650, maybe, if he was right. He said that the ac650 was different from the p650 because the engine was totaly water sealed. He also said there was no way water could get in the belt compartment because that was sealed.
So was he right or is there an intake at the top of the machine for the belt compartment?

Thanks,
eazy

There is an intake just ahead of ehere the fuel tank is on the other models, Has to be able to move air to cool, Engine and trans are sealed pretty good with the openings up high, water shuold not be a problem unless you will be up to the bottom of the handlebars. Engine is the same as the one in the Kawasaki, just put into Arctic Cat frame.
