Arctic Cat to the Rescue
On Jan 1 2004 my nephew went deer hunting alone. An hour after dark we had not heard from him. After a couple of hours waiting I went looking for him. At 9:30pm I found him at the base of the tree he had been sitting in. He had fallen about 25 feet from his climbing stand. He suffered a fracture of his right femur(thigh bone). I called 911 and the rescue sqaud responded shortly. Once he was immobilized on a spine board, the daunting task now faced us on how to get him out of the woods. He wieghs about 275 lb and 6'1" tall. The ambulance could only get within a quarter of a mile of him. The area he was in was very thick with underbrush and briars. It would be nearly impossible to carry him through the brush manually. I drove my Arctic Cat through the brush and briars to within a few yards of him. We were able to manually carry him to the Arctic Cat and load him head first onto the back rack, 3 men walked beside him to hold him onto the rack Since this added a lot of wieght to the rear of the Arctic Cat it made the front end pretty light and difficut to steer. Another man climbed onto the front rack to add some wieght to the front end. After loading him into the ambulance, the rescue squad were amazed that the Arctic Cat had so much power. We figured the total wieght on the machine was about 750 lbs. Thanks to the super low range transfer case we were able to get him out of the woods to the hospital without doing any more damage. He underwent surgey and is doing well.
