Hello as to your ? I am not sure. I was going to get the 650 because it had that option but the price scared me away. My 500 has been great. The 500 Cat beat many competitors in many dirtwheels mags and 4 wheel atv mags. It beat many competitors with locking diffs in the goo. But you also have to look at it another way also if you need a locking diff to really get through the nasty goo but you still can get stuck locking or not the trusty WINCH is all you need.

Redcruiser's got a good point! if you get stuck in the muck when your quad is in four wheel lock, you'd better start thinkin' about the winch. Problem is... when you're up to your ears in muck, who's going to carry the hook to a secure tree, through the muck?
It would be nice to have four wheel lock. But then, we'd just try to go through even deeper muck just to prove we could do it. Matter of fact, I do it anyway and most of the time I get through. But I keep good friends around. We all help when the going gets tuff... One thing our group lives by... you get stuck, you get to walk through the muck...

Do what I did get yourself a good pair of waders, a locking diff will cost you a hundred times more LOL!!!
I'd like to give a shout out to CHUCK!!! Chuck your right about that rule I'm usually the bone head that goes first LOL!!! P.S. a locking diff can sometimes get you into more trouble like Chuck and Red say, usually you just keep going straight with it engaged and wind up in more poo poo!
