DVX 400 Exhaust????????
#1
I just bought a dvx 400 and am wondering what I can do for an exhaust system. I know its the same platform as the Z and KFX, but nobody seems to know if the pipes for them will fit or not. Hopefully someone will have an answer. Thanks

Yes the pipes will fit. I have experimented wit a few ipes, the best pipe is the one you like. Tkae some time to get the jetting set up properly and you will be happy. Thye are all so close. I do recommemd a full system, if you have the cabbage.

Does a full system really make that much difference over a slip on? Why?
I can understand getting headers on a car, becuase you are forcing several cylinders through one tube (your exhaust manifold), and when you put on headers, you increase the airflow by giving each cylinder its own pipe. However, with a single cylindered engine, why would there be any difference, unless there was a significant size difference in the head pipe?

Ryan, most people, well I shoud say, I never stop at just a slip on. It starts ther, goes to a new carb, maybe port work, a new piston, and then maybe an ignition. After all that is done, you are sitting there with a 4300 slip on, that is holding you back. Yes they are tuned and larger, they usually are stepped and provide better scavenging. Thats all, it jsut sucks to spend $300, to have to spend another$450 later. So I tyr to buy full right off hte bat.

I just recently dressed my DVX out with Yoshimura stuff for the Z400 - it all bolts right on. If you want it to just sound like a hot rod, slam a slip-on on it and go about your business. If you want to really tune the machine then it takes more than a pipe. Parts ordered/replaced on mine were - full stainless pipe and header system (Note that the silencer has a "Team Suzuki Yoshimura" badge on it - so what?) cams, carb and filter system, rev box. I did the headwork and slotted the cam sprockets to make them degreeable. I stayed with the stock piston simply because it's new and I figure that will need replacement before too long anyway. The top end is where you make horsepower, the bottom end just has to be able to stand up to what's going on up top.
