2003 500i fouled plugs
Hey guys, this is a fantastic place and want to thank all those involved. I have a 2003 500I auto with 157 miles on it and its been thru 4 plugs already. The dealership just replaces plugs and revs the engine. I use reg gas and treat the machine well. Im so PO'd at AC for not having a place to contact them. Im thru venting and any suggestions would be of great help. Danoh

It does sound like it s running rich, its sad they cant adjust it for you.
Do you do alot of idling? low rpm operation? If so, you might want to go to a hotter plug.
If you want to try adjusting this yourself, its not that hard to do.
Read this article, and see if you want to try it yourself.

I have the same motor as you and I think in the Midwest they came with a 148 main jet. If you are at 5000 feet the Buena Vista dealer told me a 143 would work and above 8500 feet a 138 or 140 would work. Did the number in the manual get you anywhere? 218-681-4999. It should not be fouling plugs?? Just be careful if and when you rejet it that you don't get it too lean as motor damage can result. I would first take it to another dealer. I have 215 miles on mine without a plug fouling so something is up??

1ST Do you use your choke every time you start your machine?
2ND Do you let you choke stay on while you machine is warming up?
3RD Have you adjusted your piolot screws?
4TH Help me out with this one guys..... Maybe it's a stuck choke cable or spring.
Try this......
1ST Use you choke only to start it the first time.
2ND Once it is started turn your choke to off. (My father in law has a nasty habit of leavin it on
3RD Adjust your piolot jet screws..... turning them out will give you more gas, so turn them in a little bit.
4TH main jets only affect from 1/4 throttle to full throttle, needles affect from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, and piolot screws affect from idle to 1/4 throttle. Sounds to me like your to rich already..... leave the needles alone, drop you jets one full size smaller, but i would try adjusting your piolot screws first it should help. You guys are incredible. I dont use my choke every time, only as necessary and turn it off slowly. Havent adjusted anything yet. I get it back from the dealer sometime in the next two weeks.. Im at sea level and am serious about finding another dealer. That is definite. I e-mailed AC but no response yet, I guess im going to have to call them. Might even buy one share of stock so i can get some inside numbers thru investor relations.
