03 Cat 500 4x4 auto Mod. Air Filter & Exhaust
#1
Looking for some input on a modify on my 03 Kitty Cat. Having put 589 M/T 27x9-12 tires on I have lost a little on the bottom end. My thoughts were that this Cat has a rather large carb, so if I increase the air in and the air out that I might pick up a little on the bottom end. I am putting a larger diameter then stock K&N air filter in after a little box adjustment and a SuperTrapp IDS2 exhaust. I know I will have to re-jet after I put this stuff on, not a big deal I change the jet when I ride in Colorado or in Louisiana. It will be a trial and error thing. What do you think???

What jet size do you use in Colorado and how hard is it to do? I am going in September and have been told what sizes to use by A/C but want to confirm with someone who has done it!

I was in Colorado this past Oct. around the 17th for a two-day ride; we were riding around 8,000 feet. I had asked my dealer here in Kansas what main jet to use he suggested a 138 the factory was a 148 it still seamed to run a little rich. When I got back I pulled the plug it was really black like it was to rich, so I think I will have to experiment a little the next time we go to Colorado. I am sure I will after I change out the air filter and exhaust. I have been running a 145 jet here in Kansas it is about 1,371 feet here and it runs excellent, that was before I make those changes. You might ask your dealer what he thinks you should use and at what altitude. It is fairly easy to change the main jet out, but if you have never changed one you should probably let someone who has changed one do it and you watch the first time. Good luck and have fun in Colorado it's a blast.
