change my 500 1998 to automatic 500
#2
I thought long & hard about which to buy, a manual or an Auto, when I was shopping this spring. The cheap side of me wanted the manual to save the $500, but the older more relaxed side of me wanted the Auto because I'm getting lazy. Now I am very happy I bought the Auto, it is so easy to operate, you never have to think "Which gear am I in?" or "Do I need to downshift for this next hill?" You just press on the throttle & go. The only fault I see with the Auto is a poorly designed vent which allows air to pass over the belt to cool it. If you go thru deep water (anything over your knee) you stand a good chance of getting your belt wet & it will slip. If deep water is a regular thing for you, this can be easily remedied with some type of snorkle rigged up. Other than that, I think (for me anyways) the auto is a much better choice. When I rode a manual Arctic Cat, I wasn't too impressed with the heel-toe shifter. I figured if I rode it a while, I would get used to it but it was awkward to use at first for an old dirt biker like myself. Hope this helps.
