Default For those wanting a locking unlocking diff for the 500i manual

All parts come from a 650 04 AC.

Thanks to maximus and others i have a list of what is needed.

1) 1-36 Tooth ring gear..PN 0501-411....$226.74

2) 1-ring gear shim cover side..you need to know the value of your current HOUSING side AR shim....
PN 0402-394.....$9.87

3) Gear Case Cover assembly. PN 0502-434 This includes everything you need for the locking system internal parts and diff housing cover. You will have to use some of you existing parts, unless you want to have new ones. $ 239.95

4) Gear Case Cover seal.. PN 0402-394 $ 9.83

5) Diff LOK control assembly includes all hardware and mounting...PN 0502-527...$46.40

6) Diff LOK Cable... PN 0487-030..$30.74

grand total for estimated retail cost

564.03 plus TAX...not to bad to have a locking and unlocking 500I....

Keep in mind alot of this sounds hard and complicated.but after looking over the breakdown of the 650 diff and the 500 diff. it looks like a piece of cake if you are somewhat inclided. when you order the cover assembly it comes with everything except the ring gear, shim, and seal. The new cover will have a place for the cable to attach to and you run the cable up to the lok lever assembly that attaches to your handle bars. I can email anyone with the break down of the diff, that shows where the parts go.

Hope this helps all the 500 riders, this will sure make me happier!!

Im out!!!

I am not 100 percent sure, but I dont think so. I believe the gear ratio is different as is the entire drive system.. Wish i could help and point you in the right direction, but I am not able to. The only way i know to make all 4's pull on a 400i is to buy a rear ring gear and place it in the front.. the only problem there is it will be some what difficult to turn the bike, due to the front tires turning at the same time. This however can be assisted by adjusting your towing, and staying with a thin tire in the front.. good luck

CK, what is the price of a complete diff? It would be the **** to have that diff, I already have a set of used 3.6 diffs to give me some more low end when I put bigger tires on.

I think the 400i diffs are the same as the 500i's, I belive the transmission has a different ratio, I will check out my manual and see what it says.

if thats the case on the 400 then all you would have to do is change out the pinion, and maybe the pinion spacers.

A complete diff will run you around 865.00 give or take a few

The ring gear on the 400's, auto and manual transmission have 36 teeth. and has the same part # as the 500's.
But the housing gearcase on the 650 has a different # then 400 & 500's, so my Question is will the 650 cover(gearcase) fit on the (400, 500) housing?

And the reason it has a different part number is becasue it is a different housing with a completly different hookup to the drive line. But again all the values are the same in the shims. Which indicates the housinf width is the same!!!
