AC 650 4X4 downhill engine braking
My Cat 650 engine braking isn't as good as it was on my Prairie 650, I think the Belt is still too loose. I had the belt adjusted but I still can hear the belt squawk now & then, which is not a good sound to hear. I plan to reinstall the .8 shim along with the shim that is already in & then put in the EPI Black Spring, from what I have read on other post, this should cure my belt squawking & greatly improve my engine braking.

Mine works perfectly. Even in the mountains, I rarely have to touch the brakes when going down hill in low range. I did have to have my belt tightened a little after 70 or so miles, but 100 miles later, it still works perfectly with no slipping, chirps, or any negative behavior. I couldn't be happier with the machine.

I own a 2003 polaris 700 and a arctic cat 400 and have owned hondas and yamahas.
When going down steep hills my arctic cat and hondas-yamahas work alot better than the polaris rear wheel only ebs as a matter of fact i wrote polaris telling them i think there ebs is dangerous.The first time i rode my 700 we went down a rather steep trail I went down the trail trying every method i know to keep the machine under control but was in a dangerous slide all the way down to the bottom and was lucky i wasen't hurt. the other 2 machines that were with me a arctic cat and a honda went down the hill under control and they hardly had to hit there brakes[boy was i mad] . this was just after polaris sent me a letter saying if i dident attend there rider saftey coarse they would void my warranty. One of the reasons i buy 4wdrs is for the control going down hills you would think for 7.600.00 you would get more.

Don't get me wrong here.
I know the Cat 650 too has excellent engine braking, mine just isn't set up right yet for my liking. On my Prairie 650s I had the Kawasaki High Altitude Clutch kit installed & one of the shims removed. One of my buddies had the Black Spring & also one of the shims removed & both of our P650s had excellent engine braking with no-locking up of any of the wheels no matter how steep the down grade was.
I do have all 5 of the needed shims & when I get the time to do the belt adjustment, I will get the right combo of shim/shims & the Black spring to work correctly.
