Default Oil Light problem

well i have my first problem with my cat, I have about 100 miles on it, i was riding today and noticed my oil light on, so i added oil and the light went out, just like it should, the problem is that when i put the machine in gear the oil light comes back on, in neutral-light went out. I knew i had the proper amount of oil in it so i went down the road about 1/8 mile and back and the oil light was on constantly, I checked the oil and its at the proper level. anyone have any ideas, i am going to change the oil and filter tonight and see if it still happens, anyone have any other ideas, comments, maybe wiring being wet or something, it is break up and there is water everywhere.................

Sounds like your oil pump took a dump or is at least weak. Could also be the oil filter but not likely.

Hopefully it's just a faulty pressure switch!

Your dealer will need to check the oil pressure with a mechanical guage. Also could be a wire shorting to ground in the wire from the swtichl to the light.

Default Oil Light problem

On my new super low miles 650 LE, my oil light started flashing. I took it to my dealer. They checked the oil pressure with a mechanical unit, and even compared pressures on a different bike to compare to.

When all was said and done, I got a new engine. Not that my engine was worn, only had a few hours on it.

Take it to your dealer, and let them contact whomever they need to.

My thread on oil light.

sounds like when the oil is cold it is thicker and may generate more pressure, but as it warms up and thins the pressure drops too much

Wearywonderer, did you get your machine back yet, and what did you end up with, a new engine?

Yes, Arctic Cat swung for a new engine; I want to say it took no more than 1.5 weeks, maybe a little longer.

I think I did a thread on it, do not remember.

Did you do an oil change; maybe you have a bad filter? No matter, take it in to your dealer. This way you have a paper trail as well, just in case you get an issue down the road.

Better safe than sorry....

I got to go riding. Going stir crazy....

Well I took her out for a ride, was out for about 1/2 an hour and the light never came on, and I didnt seem to have any problems, so I am thinking that I may have gotten something too wet and that was the problem. I am gonna call the dealer tomorrow anyway and talk to them about taking a look at it, its time for my service anyway.
