I'm pretty sure the speedometers are a little on the forgiving side, at least for 98 and 99 models. There was a time where I could get my speedometer to read 60 on a steep downhill. I checked it with a GPS a month ago, and got a much better reading. I have 27" Bi/Tri Claws on it and I could top out at 52 on flat pavement. I got the GPS up to 57 on a moderate dirt downhill. The bigger tires changed the speedometer reading to where it is pretty acurate now. My cousin's 454 used to read about 2mph higher with 25" tires compared to my old stock 26" when we were side by side in the 40's. With the taller tires, I show a 4-5 mph difference with his speedometer when we are side by side. I don't know about the 2000's but the 99 speedometer will make you think you are going faster. A good figure to tell you would be 50-53mph. I did about 5 or 6 trial runs with the GPS and it topped out at 52.something every time.
