My 500 auto has a high pitch whine above 30 mph that sounds kind of like a whistling noise. I can't tell where its coming from, but I was just curious if this is something I should worry about.

Ziess, Could be a vacuum leak. That would whistle in the right kind of leak. Or is it more like a gear whine? Could you have a stick struck in you suspension rubbing on an axle or inside of a wheel? More discription of where noise is coming from would help.

 

My new 04 500i has a very similar noise at about the same speed. On the road when I take it up over 35 or so it makes a very noticable whinning noise that is most likely a gear whining noise. It has done it sinse new and I have not had any problems. If this is a problem then mabe I should get it checked out. Let me know what you find out.
