My 650 Cat Let Me Down Today
I posted last week about my belt howling, I took it to the dealer, he said it was dust, and cleaned it. He tried to make me pay. I told him to Kiss Off. Now today I went on a ride and at 7 miles it went into the Wimp Mode. I had to drive in 4 lane traffic at 13 mph to get home. I tried to reset it with a hair pin by crossing the 2 orange wires in the female plug on the Right side above the clutch, then turn the key on for 15 dseconds like the dealer told me to do should it wimp out. It didn't work. Can someone tell me how to reset it? I'm lined up with some friends for a ride tomorrow and now I can't even get the turd to run.

When was your Cat 650 bought?
If in the last 4 months, then the Reset plug part # 0486-161 should of been included in your take-home paper work/owners manual & that other stuff about safe riding. allot of the Cat dealers included the Reset plug in with the paper work but had no idea what the plug was for, as it came directly from Cat along w/the owners manual. If you do not have the Reset plug, then do a search on the Cat page for the following post: On 12/30/03 evergreen650Ac responded to "Cory' about the reseting of the belt light/limp mode. Sorry but I don't remember the "post" subject.

Since my last reply, I found this:
1-. turn off key
2-. Disconnect belt failure switch 2-wire connector
3-. Disconnect 4 wire belt reset connector
4-. jump the grey/green & orange/green
5-. turn the key on, the belt light needs to flash for 10 sec & then it will return to a slow flash.
VERY IMPORTANT; MUST WAIT FOR A SLOW FLASH
6-. Turn key off
7-. Reconnect all connectors
8-. Turn key on, belt light should no longer be flashing.
9-. If still flashing, remove belt cover & check the belt switch, if triggered, then reset the belt switch &
redo the 8-steps above.
Hopefully this will get you out of your limp-home-mode.
I do have an extra Limp-mode Reset plug 4Sale, I will sell it for $14.00, the same price I paid for it. The $14 is with First Class Postage, so if you want it, send me a PM & I will get it off to you real soon.
