i need an opinion

im not saying his quad gets the belt wet.
i have a freind that had a 600 griz and his belt got wet all the time.
every time he went through deep water it would slip.
he traded it in on a second rubicon.
and my other freind has the exact same 600 griz and it has the same problem.
my freinds kodiac is a 03 and i dont think hes had a problem with it.
but.
these are things ive seen happen to belt quads .
im not saying it all the kodiac.
i've road with a guy whos got an 04 650 cat and we had to winch our selfs up a steep bank he did
his first and we were both beside it one on each side and i could smell his belt slipping going up the bank.
we were in low range and we were just crawling with the winch doing most of the work.
but i could smell the belt.
we did the same thing with mine in first gear low range and it did it the same but with no smell.
thats just my opinion if you dont like it im sorry.
and you cant say ac hasent had any trouble with there 650 belts.
and yes i know theres a fix but its still a problem.
and the belt drives are harder on fuel there always reving, eaven when your cruiseing.

I was comparing this Kodiak against one AC400 man, one 500 AC auto. one AC 650, one 600 Grizzly, one 660 Grizz and one 700 SPortsman in our group. The 650 AC has the most beltslipping if you leave it stock (factory shims and springs) but turns into a pretty good bike after just removing one shim which takes half an hour or so. Whatever, all those rubber band trans. have to deal whith their rubber band more or less. But for working there is just no comparison between a AC 400 man and a Kodiak. For easy trail riding the 400 Cat with a manual trans. is the least fun of the bunch and the Kodiak one of the best.

I don't know what to tell ya buddy,I never had water in my belt and it never slipped(untill it was wore out,a low estimate,7000kms),and if I wouldn't go through a water or mud hole, nobody else would either.I had the first belt drive bike in my area so let me tell you,it did get tested. Now the place is full of them.I had 25" bear claws on it at first and with some body english,a few rpm's and a rain suit it would go almost anywhere. Then I put 26" 589s on it and it crawled through mud holes with ease,it was second to none. This was my experience with it,someone that didn't like it would see it differently and rag on it but it was a very good quad. The '05s have IRS and the 450s have a locker, man that would be sweet!

Just a note here, I too have never had my CVT trannys slip, or get wet. My dad's Cat 500 4x4 auto has been through a lot and no problems, never a wet belt or slipage. Also, even those crappy Polaris's I used to ride never had belt problems (lots of other problems, but never the belt). That said, I haven't riden a manual tranny ATV for more then 2 miles my entire life, so I don't really know anything about them. It is just a preference thing, to each his own.
