Yesterday 8-04-04, I went to the local Arctic Cat dealer here in Waco, Texas and purchased a 05' 500 4*4 manual. I guess I can say the deal went ok, but it just seemed like the salesperson could have worked a little better with me on the price. I put 600 down so I financed 6742.70. They were going to give me the one of the showroom floor but they would have to change the tires and it was already getting late. So they got on a forklift and brought out a wooden crate the had to be broke open to give me one right out of the box. Also got a hat out of the deal. Before leaving the dealership I got talking to one of the mechanics about the proper way of breaking it in and he gave me some of the basic information.

Just rode 27 miles yesterday

Couple of things I do not like about it:
1.There is no gas shut off from the gas tank.
2.When traveling on it the front compartment lid keeps popping up.

Things I like about it:
1.Size
2.Locking front end
3.Low end torque
4. You can believe this or not but I had it up to 60-61(Mechanic said I could open it up during break in but no longer than 3 seconds)

Have only one question!! Check through the manual and found nothing!! Would I void any warranty if I would place a shut off valve from the gas tank?

Thanks for your time,
eazy

WOW, be sure to post some pictures of your hat!!!! HA! Just kidding, but I think you are the first one here to buy a '05 500! So get some pictures of that up here! I am sure adding a fuel shut off won't void the warantee, that would be able as lame as it gets... Keep us updated on how you like the machine!

62 MPH? Wow! I think I got 57mph on my old 04' 500 and 62 has been the max speed so far on my '04 650.

Anyways, Congrats on the purchase and have fun!

lol, I put that about the hat because at first the salesperson would not give it to me. I ask him how would it look on your business it you did not give me a 13 dollar hat after I spent over 7k with them.

With the shut off, the manual shows all other models having it but the 500.

Thanks for your time,

Easy0000, great to hear about your new machine. AND hat!

I do not think you would void the warranty for adding a fuel shut off valve. Its probably their fix for so many fuel shut off valve ***** vibrating loose and falling off the earlier models. Lots of people are ordering that little dandy.

Ony thing you need to do is put about 300miles on that beast so you can put synthetic oil in it. Once you do you will see it run a little cooler, and a little better. Plus you don't have to change the oil as often using synthetic.

I still get the 2 year wornty on it not a bad deal for $5,600.00 you thank :-)

Lonnie104 not a bad deal at all, wish I could have got mine for that!!

swampyjunior, The manual says just first 10 hours and nothing about the miles, but when talking to the mechanic he said first 10 hours or 200 miles.

Let me tell everyone a story of what I did today and you will know why I can call it a BEAST now!!

Today around lunch, I went for a ride to put more miles on it. Upon riding I saw a small creek that look to have about 3 ft of water in it and look to have mostly a rocky bottom. It looks about 30 yards and it was dry land again. So I started thinking about the break in with my trucks and other atv that I almost drive them like you usually would, so I went for it. Going in it was about 2 ft and had a soft my stable ground. About 10 yards in I hit some mud and sunk the tires about half way down and then the 2WD was not kicking it any more, just spinning. I switch to 4wd and it made it to the dry land where I was going to come out. When looking for a way out the only way up was a straight up and down cliff about 3 to 4 feet tall with a little slope I could start on. My first try I made it about half way up it and then it started to spin and go nowhere. The second try I got the front tires on top of the cliff and the bottom tires where still at the bottom. At certain points only one front tire would spin at a time so I lock the front end up and that is where the magic happened. Gave it the gas and the front tires where both spinning until they caught and literally buried down and then it put itself out.

WOW, I know these little details don't give you much to go on but you would have to have been there to see what it really did.

Thanks for your time,
eazy

A 2005 AC 500 4X4 lists at $6600.

You put 600 down and financed 6742 that brings the total price of it to $7342

For $200 more you could have gotten a Brute Force... did you really want a manual shift that bad?

For what its worth, I think you got a great machine. I too like the manual shift, but you cant get some of the higher end 4X4s in manual.

Good to hear you got a hat though.
