i'm looking at buying a quad, i have been a long time fan of arctic cat and i was looking at getting a cat quad. i was looking at the 250 4x4 or 300 4x4. which one do you think is better? i will be plowing snow, mudding, and hauling, my friends all have 2wd recons and ranchers, but i want a 4x4, what cat would be the best? any help!!!???

The 300 is alot better if you ask me, it has more power, 2wd/4wd selector(I think the 250 can be outfited with this from looking at pictures but I will have to see it in person to be sure), better racks and brush guards, and better mud protection.

Spudly:
I'd have to agree with Boner, the 300 would probably be the better choice for you. Isn't the 250 4x4 new this year? Anyway, for what you plan to do with it (mudding, plowing, hauling gear, etc.), I tend to believe that bigger is better. Granted, you're only talking an additional 50 cc, but that little bit of extra power could be rather beneficial in the long run. Especially if you ever want to increase it's capabilities, such as performance parts, or bigger tires, etc.

Best of luck, let us know what you get!

Mike

Go with the 300 4x4 the 250 would be too under powered. I have a 2000 300 4x4 and it could use a few more ponies. The new 250 4x4 does not have selectable 2wd & 4wd, so it will be turning all those shafts and tires and severely reducing your speed. I sure can notice the difference in top end when I have my 300 in 4wd. The extras that come with the 300 are well worth it, full instrumentation, a few more cc's, full fender flares, selectable 2& 4wd and robust racks.

The 300 is obviously better, it just depends on how much you want to spend. That seems to be the biggest factor when going from one engine class to the next. Same deal with the Suzuki's.

Just got back from the local cat dealer. He had a new 250 2001 4x4 nice machine. A further observation to my last post is the skid plate does not run the full length of the under carriage, it ends just in front of the engine/transmission assembly.

Well I have confirmed it. The 250 can easily be converted to 2wd/4wd with about 50 bucks in parts if you want to use Arctic Cat 300 parts. My dealer is gonna do this to atleast 2 of there 2001 240 4x4's they have on the floor.
